Desperation

Desperation

Abandoned  young  mother

nurses her newborn

cradled in protective arms

naked acceptance

in her weary eyes

hunger claws at them both...

Powerful words Cat - a young women's abandonment at a time when care was needed makes these few lines drip with pathos and when a mother feels helpless in hunger's grip desperation must really set in. Terrible trauma comes to the fore in your unforgettable poem my friend.
