Behind the Mirror

BreeG

I can see it all.

Every moment.

I can see my dad leaving.

I can see the first time my mother hit me.

I can see my brother teaching me to ride a bike, and tie my shoes, and make a PB&J.

I can see my friends laughing.

I can see myself falling in love.

I can see myself hesitating, but thinking “no, it’s real”

I can see him destroy me.

I can see him break me down.

I can see us smiling to our friends.

I can see myself crumbling...

I reach out; desperate to help myself.

My hands pressed against this glass.

I’m stuck. In this box I’ve made myself.

I put these walls up to protect myself. It seemingly hurts worse than before.

Now I watch the destruction of the past. My past.

Unable to change it...

I watch from behind the mirror.
