Growing pains

Kevin.vowels

Once upon a time there was a boy who had a dream

That the world didnt lie that everything was as it seemed

The boy who loved to laugh and joke was always having fun

Every word that he had spoke was kind to everyone

He loved to help anyone he wished they all could be his friends

He had plans knew things he didn't want thought about the time he spent

He tried things gained some talents he was always quick to learn

He embraced every challenge and never seemed concerned

But then he headed home from school with trouble in his heart

He No longer played the joking fool

His dreams drifted apart

Back to moms where she was always caught up "working late"

The van comes swirving down the drive at least she made it safe

Or maybe off to dads where he felt scared and not of use

A busy business man with a wife who showed abuse

Hiding in his room the boy tried to keep his smile

Losing all the hopes and dreams he gathered as a child

Forced to face reality that nothings as it seems

Witnessing brutality and the darker side of things

Back to school he goes where he escapes and can be free

Doing things he knows are trouble just to finally be seen

Rebellious, enjoys danger just looking for a thrill

Slowly gaining anger thoughts of home make him unstill

After school activities the rough and rowdy crowd

Now we all can witness he is spiraling right down

Parties with the older kids and others with no boundaries

Wondered where this life had been these friends have finally found him

The years go by the party's on his dreams and goals can't stay

Now tears in eyes his life is gone how did it get this way

The friends all wander some grow up but he seems to be stagnant

His hope goes under now he's loaded because he just can't stand it

No job he's broke but now he has a beast he needs to feed

Steal from those around him anything to fill his need

His hatred for himself begins to fill his every thought

He doesnt know what to do its a ride he cant get off

Gasping for air now hurting everyone around him

Lifes a crushing weight hes scared and  feels like he's surrounded

Hanging on to any thread left of that little boy.

with dreams and aspirations but he feels these things no more

Another broken human from a family cursed with squalor

Getting jealous of the simple fun enjoyed by all the others

Hopeless and he knows this story must soon be changing

He never meant to go this deep into these dark behavings

So he tries to pull himself out and for years its constant struggles

Every time he fails and falls back down the the pain and sadness doubles

Victory seems absent from any version of his dealings

All those dreams he had mean nothing he just wants a few good feelings

Anything to make this struggle start to go away

I guess thats just what happens when little boys decide to play
