Grandpa,
I wish I had the fair chance
Of knowing who you were.
I wish I didn't harbor,
I wish you knew him
So that I heard stories of you from him.
I wish I knew my father
Or you, knew him
So that I would know who my father would be after knowing you.
I wish I didn't break,
I wish you hadn't perished
So that I knew you would love him, teach him, raise him.
I wish I didn't have to wish,
for you,
a longer life with him.
I wish you saw him grow.
I wish you showed him love.
I wish he saw you get old.
I wish he felt your love.
I wish he had the chance to be,
who he was meant to be.
I wish for a father,
Whom isn't who he used to be.

- Comment from author about the poem: This poem isn't about a father that left his daughter. It is about a grandfather who passed away, leaving his son too soon and never being able to meet his granddaughter. This poem is written by his granddaughter who reflects on her father's personality and the possibility of it being different because he grew up without a father. The poem was written to her grandfather but was also for her father.

LOVE THIS
Thank you!
As both a father and a grand-father, I could only wish to have a poem like yours written by one of my grand children! Beautiful, well written, so full of love and caring. Alexa, you are a good writer, and judging from only this one poem, a good person.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate this.
