Two Shipwrecks

Edthepoet

The space between us two
Is filled by an empty room
The place that we once used
to dance by the light of the moon.

I know it's okay to cry
But I can't remember why
These tears fall to the floor boards
And flood this room with these thoughts.

The candle that we once lit
Has melted down to its wick
No sign of a flicker or flame
And only ourselves to blame

I know it's okay to scream
But I can remember when
Whispered words would break down walls
And fill this room with rubble

I wish we had enough time
To try and understand
why we're two shipwrecks
passing by in the night
Dreaming of finding land
