Freedom

Jayne

I looked at my hands
Bloodied and raw
From dragging my baggage
Along the floor
I set it down
And left it there
With a warning sign
"Toxic - gloom and despair"
I walked away
From the bags all rotten
And left them alone
To be forgotten
I looked at my feet
Ankles teathered together
With the ball and chain
I've dragged around foverever
I sat and thought
For many a night
How to rid my bones
From this terrible plight
I found a saw
And hacked at each link
'Til they fell apart
And I was able to think
I looked at my face
I saw a disguise
A plastic mask
I didn't recognise
I forced my fingers
Under each edge
And ripped it off
With a solemn pledge
That now I am free
I will no longer hide
From the ugliness
Hidden inside
Now I was liberated
Exposed and in pain
But with a lighter load
I pressed forward again
