The Balloon

PACollin

Can a green balloon reach to heaven?
No, but It will have to do.

I heard of a pink balloon in England once
                            that joined a separate two.

That balloon flew with precision and grace
to an Angel, transformed to friend.

My green balloon was hesitantly released
with a hope that your hearts can mend.

In lieu of holding your sweet young boy
we watched from from the ground as they flew

With resolute spirit and tears in our eyes
                            we'll start each tomorrow anew.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Written after a memorial for my nephew. We released green balloons in an effort to touch heaven and feel him again. The pink balloon comes from a Radiolab piece where a girl released a pink balloon and it found another girl with the same name, age, and characteristics in a distant town. (episode - Stochasticity)
