Keep Walking

Cody Farmer

If you keep walking, you will make it through the forest.

If you keep walking, you'll get through the storm.

But dear god, don't turn around.

Dear God, don't you sit down.

For if you turn around, you will wander.

And if you sit you will ponder.

For if you turn around you will be lost.

And if you sit... You will be forgotten.

If you turn around, you will find a bear. A bear of the past. The same one you conquered long ago.

And if you sit, the bear will find you on its way to the river to catch salmon. And because the bear is hungry, he will devour you.

So please, for the love of god, keep walking.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Up until about a month ago I had clinical depression. Every day I would turn around and walk through my forest of memory and deface the bear. Through this, my souls became lost. Then one day I turned around and started walking again, but my legs got tired so I decided to sit. The bear came to me and destroyed me as if I had turned around and gone to face it again. After that, I decided it was time to start walking. And no matter how tired my legs got, I kept walking. And I walked and walked and walked.... until I got out of the forest. Keep your head up and keep walking. You will get through this :) ❤.
