Hearing Aid

Edward Charles McDevitt

Have you known someone that you hold near and dear,

Even when you speak at them, they just cannot hear?

Asking to repeat, the words that you are telling,

Rather than a "thank you", they accuse you of yelling?

It happens very often with my Mother and my Spouse,

Nothing you can do, except you feel like such a louse!

Guess I shouldn't complain, as they are one's I Love,

All that I can do, is ask for help from up Above.

I know that He will help and aid me from the Sky,

Despite the stress I feel, He'll assist me to get by!

  • Comment from author about the poem: This little Acrostic poem is true. Both my spouse and mother are unable to hear very well. When I relate to them and ask me "What?", I reply with a louder voice, then I'm accused of yelling at them. It's no wonder I had a heart attack!!! The stress they put me under, I swear! I know I've got to be patient with them because I have no idea what they too are going through.. Hope you all enjoy, and it's so good to be back!!!

Good write. I shouldn't jump from normal speech to yelling in one go. But if they don't hear after, oh about 4,357 times, you'll be frustrated to yell!

I don't know if you realize just how much stress that puts on me! It's horrible.. I'm sorry about your hearing issues, but I wish they wouldn't take it out on me!!! Thanks O!!!

Such an honest admittance of frustrations Edward - - hearing clearly is of great value and problems when sound gets muzzy are a challenge to all concerned. An engaging read - welcome back to this friendly poetry site and am hoping to read more of your poetic work soon.

It's so nice to hear from you, Fay! If my mom and spouse only knew the stress that is put upon me by their inability to hear... I just have to take a moment, reflect and ask myself, "What would I do if put in their shoes?". Thanks for the comment. I'm working on a doosie right now, and it's a real challenging piece. If you see one with "Okay" in the title, that's the one! Thanks again Fay!!!

Great poem, Edward! We always concentrate on the ones hard of hearing, never on the ones who have to live with it.
In my case, I just have selective hearing! 🙂

Ha! I Love that Fred!!! I know that I have to deal with it. I try and put myself in their shoes, but that doesn't really help much. I just need to be more aware of the situation and speak directly to them! Thanks for the comment Fred and I do appreciate any and all.. Have a good day!!!
