An Ode To A Friend

Syd

An ode to a friend
Who I met when I was I young
"Where're you going and what're you on?"
Was how the conversation begun

Pre drinks before the rave
Was how we bagan the evening
Two for one in the local dive boozer
The place was proper heaving

A few years later we went to Amsterdam
We sailed on the ferry
Me and her stayed up till the wee hours
Getting off our tits and merry

I was nearly on whitey
Starting to think all hope was forlone
I pissed myself from laughing the next day
Whe she was searched for animal porn

She's one in a million
A diamond in the rough
Always the last to turn in for the night
The last to say "enough"

She loves a bit of gossip
Likes to know the business of the street
Her heart's always in the right place
A lovely lass to meet

She loves a bit of Irish music
She likes Techo & Trance
And when the spotlights on her
She loves to break dance

She asked why I hadn't wrote a poem for her
So I thought that I ought 'er
She's the life and soul of the party too
She can talk under water

She can keep up with the rest of us
She drinks like a bloke
She's not a goody two shoes
She likes the odd line of coke

She shot cupids arrow
Changed the course of my life
When twelve years ago
She introduced me to my wife

Four years ago she introduced me to Dave
He was still mourning the loss of his wife
The love from his new circle of friends
Gave him a new lease of life

Dave & Jannette grew very close
They seemed never to be apart
I wished them both happiness
From the bottom of my heart

Dave never realised he loved her
'Til she went on holiday and he missed her
I've got to admit I love her too
I love her like a sister

Cherish friends like these
They deserve a special place in your heart
The best of friends they are for life
Without them I would fall apart

Syd, your poems are fantastic.Another beautiful one. I met a girl like this once. We are still happily married.

Thank you Drewp, likewise. Always a pleasure to read your poems too. We've been friends since I was nineteen and still socialise regularly. She's a good laugh and a good friend as you can tell from the poem. Thanks for reading - Syd

        Syd,
Beautiful tribute to Dave and Jannette!
It’s rare to find true friends...
        but when we do,
        as you seem to have,
        cherish and adore them!
A wonderful poem for your friends!
I hope they get to see and read it!

Thank you Laura, yes you're right it is rare to find true friends. I'm fortunate to have a tight circle of friends.

Yes they have already read them, I made sure that Janette read this one before I uploaded it just to make sure she didn’t take offence by me saying that she drinks like a bloke etc. Lol

Glad you like the poem, take care - Syd

So remiss of me to think you would not have shown it to her before posting it!
            Sorry!
