Why Monsoon Ever Came

Gayathri Priya

She didn't count the first drop that fell or the first puddle that formed, she just knew the monsoon came.

She didn't count the days to it or tear away the calendar leaves, she just knew the monsoon came.

She didn't know of the young leaf that rose in the glade, or of the Gulmohar that bloomed, she just knew the monsoon came.

She didn't hear of the leaking roof or the drowning river, she just knew the monsoon came.

She didn't see the raindrop trickle on her window,

Nor did she mind the wet clothes that hung;

Not the petrichor, not the cooing dove,

Not the silent rejoicing of mountains far-flung,

She just knew the monsoon came.

And then she heard Nature talk to her,

That she could now bury the dead;

Dead wishes, dead dreams,dead hope

And all the bad ever done or said;

Its finally time, said Monsoon,

So ditch the past and start afresh;

Time to begin all that is to be done

And complete all that's left undone;

'Tis time to believe, time to hope,

That all will fall into place,

Just you'd want to trust yourself,

More than anyone else;

'Cause no better time than monsoon

To sow the seeds and wait;

And no better place than monsoon

To start and finish it straight

Now she felt inspired and knew her game,

Besides, she knew now why Monsoon ever came!!
