Little Brown Bat

w c

Little Brown Bat

In the attic he quietly hung

Upside down away from the sun

His big brown eyes closed in sleep

His little heart a regular beat

For the day he hung up there

Until the night and evening air

When the insects flying about

Would entice him again to come back out

Barely visible he was seen

A little brown bat amongst the trees

where here and there he would fly

All acrobatic in the sky

He was no dracula and didn’t drink blood

But specialized on little bugs

And made a sound when he flew

To help locate his flying food

A little brown bat he surely was

And was a sight that everyone loved

Barely seen but popular there

Catching mosquitoes everywhere

        What a wonderful poem WC.

It's quite relevant too with Halloween having just taken place.

It's funny too I recently saw the Vincent Price film The Black Bat and a televised version of Dracula starring Louis Jourdan. This poem conjures up memories of these superb dramas for me.

        Keep writing

          Thanks FineB!

I really appreciate your comments, and I really appreciate your feedback. It makes me want to write another poem.

I too enjoyed those black-and-white thrillers.
Your comment about Vincent Price reminds me of the song, Thriller, by Michael Jackson. Vincent Price's voice was a perfect addition to the video.

Well, I guess that's all for now. I hope to hear from you again soon.

A fine write wc. One ending might be: 'Until some human came along and mucked it all up for him'. doh!
There's many humans who do good for animals though.

Thanks orchidee! I agree that many humans don't understand bats and their behavior, and they can really mess things up for them.

Bats seem to bring fear to many, I suppose do the bad press and media, but they do so much good and it seems yours was quite appreciated.

Thanks L! Yes, bats sometimes get a bad rap. They are really quite harmless. Thanks for your comment.

A great write about our little winged mosquito hunters.

Great poem, you’ve convinced me to go get myself a bat because it just sounds so cute. Also I like the positive outlook on bats instead of the normal spooky scary evil take most people contribute to~

Thanks ElenaGrace! I wish more could think like you. Little brown bats are harmless, and do our environment a pest control service.
