i’m told to be myself
but that’s difficult since i’m just an echo
an echo of so many people before me
sitting alone beside our dire thoughts
this echo is of loss and desperation and sadness and anger and confusion
but our sound is deflecting off your rock walls
rock of obliviousness, ignorance, disgust, fear
so keep telling me to be myself, to be what I was
not recognizing that this is what I’ve become
and when i’m gone another face will come into focus
to hear your message and to attempt to deliver ours
but they’re just an echo too and they’ll fade
how many more till you listen to our suffering? till your rock is weathered away?
we’re just an echo of someone else you’ve already heard
i’m just an echo
just an echo
an echo

That was a wonderful poem. But, if you could use a bit more repetition to reflect your statement, I think that it could be made even more powerful.
