That thing that you do with your hands...

Gary Edward Geraci

You’re
Never
Alone
Just look into your candle
Look at the flame. Now be
Convinced that there are
At least
Ten others
Doing the
Same.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is about the power of prayer. In my own faith tradition we can utilize the symbol of Christ’s cross to better grasp transcendental realities. The vertical line of Christ’s cross represents our own individual prayers to God while the horizontal line of the cross represents our collective prayers as a community of faithful Christians, both living and deceased. Many of us pray with our hands held together...that thing you do with your hands. Pray often my dear brothers and sisters!

I am (was?) rather traditional. I gasped at first at someone actually praying with their eyes open! Whatever next, I thought? I'm not so fuddy-duddy now.

Eyes closed, hands open, sitting, kneeling, standing, chanting - to pray is to engage in an act of communication that is uniquely and expressly human. No other creature can do it. All praise and glory to God for creating the human being as His crown jewel!
