Slow Learner

Will Shootman

And it takes a long time to feel

The way you feel when you go to bed

When you wake up in the morning

And it takes a long time to feel

That someone else deserves to have

What you can’t

And it takes a long time to remember

Why things went south

And you went north

And it takes a long time to remember

Why you were mad

In the first place

And it takes a long time to learn

How to know when someone’s eyes

Are saying they’re happy to see you

And it takes a long time to learn

How to keep your hand steady

When the waves are rolling

And it takes a long time to know

Why we all aren’t meant to go there

In one car

And it takes a whole hell of a long time to know

That just because I’m a guy

Doesn’t mean that I’m the guy

And it may take a lifetime to find out

Why I walk out in the rain

And find the deepest puddle to jump in
