Blame, Guilt & Forgiveness

Accidental Poet

As you travel the road of life

With your eyes straight ahead

Do the memories of the past

Leave you with tears on your bed

All too often

The innocent are wrongly accused

Burdened with shame

While the guilty are excused

But guilt has a long history

Traced back to who knows how far

The future runs into the past

A family tree of scars

One generation

Makes a victim of the next

And on and on it goes

Giving life to the hex

Long overdue healing

Comes from forgiveness within

Forgive yourself

Then with others you can begin

    AP,
    A great reflective poem!
    A wonderful message!
    We should sky write it
    for the world to see!
    Forgiveness is a healing
    power! Blessed are those
that have it! The last stanza says it best!
    Thank you for the share!

Thanks Laura.. It's not always easy to forgive others, especially when the hurt went deeper than most. I think most people feel that it's easier to hold onto the hurt than it is to forgive. But also some may feel that forgiving someone might change you, but won't change them and that makes it hard to forgive. Maybe we can't expect to change anyone but ourselves in that scenario.

Very discerning of you, AP! Thank you!

Ah - now this is a piece of true wisdom A.P. and the final lines say it so well. - - Forgive yourself

Then with others you can begin. Great read.

Thanks Fay. And forgiving oneself is many times easier than it sounds.

Thanks sky, I do appreciate knowing that. It's always a gratifying feeling knowing that the words we write take root in the hearts of others.

You have to forgive in order to forget. AP, this poem says a lot more than is visible at first. Needs to be read a few times.

Thank you Fred. I myself just read it again.

Yes, like a door opening to the fresh air, forgiveness give freedom to both sides.
