You and Me, Me Without you

kenzie2.0

I love you he said

and for a while I believed it

until those text stopped rolling in

and the late night phone calls ended

but we were that one in a million

that silver dollar couple

people see us in the halls

they swear that we are their goals

saying they want a relationship like ours

but all they see are the  smiles and masks

they never see the pain that lies

behind these dark brown eyes

and as months go on

I can see the love drain from inside

then that one in a million couple

becomes a piracy of the real thing

we aren’t oringinal anymore

we lost touch, lost sync

and it hurts me to my core

wonder if we will ever get back to the way we were before

back when you said you loved me

and I knew it was the truth

back when you cared

and it was extraordinary

all the memories of you and me

and the moments of security

but it’s gone

and all that’s left

is an ache in my heart

and the remnants of a dream

that was the future of you and me
