"May I have this dance?" I heard a voice say from behind me.
I turned and held out my hand. "Of course."
We headed out onto the dance floor and locked our arms in the correct position.
I tried to remember my steps, as I listened to the music. '1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3'.
He leaned and pressed his lips to my ear. "You look like you've done this before." His breath was hot on my skin.
"Once or twice." I said back.
"Well you're very good." He complimented, as he twirled me away from him.
He pulled me back and I stumbled a bit, into his chest.
"Sorry." I managed, my cheeks aflame.
He smiled with perfect white teeth. "No problem. But in order for me to forget that little mistake, I require another dance."
I smiled back and bowed my head. "I think I can manage that."
We danced for what seemed like an eternity, when we finally tired out and he asked for one last whirl.
And again I nodded my head, not wanting to go.
The song started, slow and melodic. He twirled me and my dress fanned out, reaching like a child's arms pointed toward the stars.
When he pulled me back, he pulled me close with one hand set firmly on the small of my back.
His fingers splayed across my open skin, and held me there like I might escape.
Pressed against each other, we swayed back and forth- his hand never moving from my back. He leaned down and pressed his lips just below my ear.
He pulled back and I looked up into his eyes; green and gray and flecks of blue were some of the multiple colors I found in them.
They were like the ocean- so deep and mysterious that no beauty could compare, so bright that even the sun couldn't see; so close to mine that I was afraid to look away.
I looked deeper into them and stood on my tiptoes. I smiled at him as he brought his face closer and closer to mine until there was no space left between us.
His mouth against mine, finding its way to fit. His lips were soft and gentle, moving with mine in perfect harmony; fireworks exploded between us and I could see the colors, even with my eyes shut.
The song we were dancing to was long over, and another had taken its place- but we stayed there, locked in our moment until he pulled away and we looked at each other once more.
I thought he was leaving when he backed away, but he held out his hand and bowed.
"May I have this dance?" He asked.
