Guardian Of The Night

Guardian of the Night

Through the silvered reflections
I am taken by the streaming light
Conscious levels of sound cascade
Into dreams of the children of the night

This is not my dreaming of this night. By the Lady, Goddess of the night, I would gladly sit in my garden swing in the pale light of the constellations. If not for this thickening of clouds in my indigo night sky.

I am the ghost that haunts this forested piece of land. See me standing stalk still in the shadows. There... beneath the grandly spreading protective branches of my beloved pecan tree.

Look closely and you would think me a statue. This is my talent. To remain perfectly still, breathing shallowly and slow. My heart rate under firm and practiced control. Making not a sound to be perceived by human ears.

While I am in this state, I am unafraid, for feeling and thought are merged into simple mathematics. I am one with the discipline I employ, a simple factor within the equation. I am the guardian, and my unblinking eyes stay steadily fixed upon the hunter. Although he knows it not, the hunter has become the hunted!

Such a cleverly sentenced dip into the eloquence of mystery here Cat - - - I felt the warning in that final line from the NIght's Guardian - - -
your words cast a spell on this reader my friend. Good to see you posting again. x

      dearest Fay,

thank you so very much for your kind words after reading this bit of prose. I wrote this after an on-line troll from another site told me he was going to hunt me down and harm me. like most bullies he was all hot air! and it is good to be back!

      *hugs, Cat

Ah, dwellers of the night, basking not in the shadows of ill-content but in love's precious light, moonlight to be precise. You may not see them but they are there and they watch over the stars so that none not even Orion may escape their gaze. I love this, I love its mystery and especially its threatening dark side. Joe

thank you so very much, Joe, for telling me how much you enjoyed this piece of prose! and for giving me such a wonderful response!

You'll have to be prepared to wait for some time Cat. It took me 10 years. But you're the older of the two of you. Just stay vigilant and faithful.
