Old Stuff

Accidental Poet

While viewing my old cameras

I hear, “Don’t you have enough?”

Well what can I say?

I just like old stuff

So I’ve a passion

For photographic antiques

With every picture

A camera tells a story unique

Whether on film

Or digital memory card

An image is made

Of children in the yard

They say a picture

Is worth a thousand words

And I’ll not deny the voices

From my cameras I’ve heard

The older it gets

Sweeter is the camera’s voice

So when my collection sings

I feel my heart rejoice

And not just cameras

Anything that’s vintage

Old paper money and coins

Of rare mintage

Even antique furniture

In an old house

How lucky was he

The resident mouse

How different life was

In those long ago days

Technology in its infancy

The dawning of a new age

Still some other things antique

Like an old poet I know

Every time I look in the mirror

A new grey hair will show

Hidden behind barn walls

Forgotten relics of age

With dust and cobwebs

A dance with time is waged

To some I might be crazy

They might think I’m really nuts

But I’m just old school

And I like old stuff

I figure I'm old enough to write about old stuff orchi. That's why I mentioned in the poem about an old guy in the mirror. ; )

Super write, I too look at that old poet in the mirror every morning, he will be ok though.

        • Accidental Poet

Good that that old guy in the mirror has got your support Andy. Thanks for reading.

        • myself and me

Aged photos with yellowish color, took our memories back all the way to the lovely moment as if you were there again. They carried our life and history.

          • Accidental Poet

Yes m&m, old photographs are a window to the past with one moment frozen in time. For almost 200 years cameras have been chronicling our lives and history.

With you all the way. As an artist when on holiday I want to go round the backstreets where the old buildings are, where the bins are out, where washing flaps between the bulidings, where the barns are falling apart - so much more interesting that the modern homogenised tourist areas and so much more inspiring for artwork. Great write AP.

I agree Michael, life as it is lived. Wether it's a photograph or a painting, it captures the eye and inspires the heart and soul of everyone. Thanks for reading Michael.

I'm like you too, I prefer old money and coins and photographs! Really good poem! You are not crazy to like old stuff!

              • Accidental Poet

Thanks for reading and your comment Christine. Old paper money I find to be beautiful in the artwork and some of the meanings in the designs. Plus to see the changes in the bills over the years is really cool.

                • Accidental Poet

Thanks sky. investigating the history behind old monuments can be very interesting. All the how and why they got there.

Thanks AP! I too love 'old' things. I simply love going through antique stores to see what treasures I can !

Yes WC, antique stores, flea markets and even thrift shops can reveal some very interesting finds. One time in a flea market I found a late 1800s opera viewing binoculars. They open up like a clam shell. Really different.
