Battling My Demons

LionHeartGypsySoul

Yo! You need to listen to the voices, and accept them as your friend.

Nah, every time I do that shit, I lose my mind again.

But we're sixteen times as powerful, when you are angry or mad.

And then my consciousness kicks in, and I end up lonely or sad.

But wouldn't it be nice not to have to fight for just one day?

So I can be a complete monster, watch my loved ones walk away?

But we are your only friends, all the rest have come and gone.

No I have my Mom and Dad, and for my girls I will stay strong.

That angry guy in the mirror you saw, you hated his damn face.

Man I left that side if me behind,

I'm in a better place.

What's so important that you would turn your back in who you really are?

Oh so I should go back to being drunk every night inside a stupid bar?

You used to be more fun and honestly more open minded.

That's when weed and liquor and other stuff, had me all so flipping blinded.

But these friends they wanna help and want only the best for you.

Yah they've ruined so much of my life, so tell me that bullshits true.

Okay I guess I'll try again when you are weak or you are lonely.

That just goes to show how sad you are, and how little that know me.

You should just let go and trust the other voices in our head.

So I can end up a drunk has been and maybe once more almost dead?

If you don't wanna listen then how come you always talk to me?

You remind me of the hate, and of who I never want to be.

I see I can't get through tonight I'll be back for another try.

I'll never again give in to you, but I'm glad that you stopped by.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is about the battlefield that is my mind every day. So much easier to take the low ground and go back to the convict mentality. Taking the high road has made me stronger and I will continue to battle the other side of me until the day I'm gone.

This is excellent James. It reminds me so much of my own experiences with alcoholism and drugs. I wish you the best - Syd
