“If I Die Today”
I strive to be a critically acclaimed writer
A fearsome fiery fighter
Burning up the brains of the critics with words like a lighter
clenching their white knuckles tighter and tighter
If I die today
Gather up my writings that you admire
Read them one more time
And throw them into the fire
Tell you love me
And let go of my hand
Feel my fingers leave yours
As I cross into the promised land
Think of me when it rains
Or snows or shines whenever
Think of when tomorrow comes
Recognize my endeavor
I tried to stay
But I had to go
I’m sorry to leave
But the angels told me so
Don’t read my will
Don’t cry for me
If I die today
Think of how happy i’ll be.
