We The People

TobySpreadborough

We, the people, those words,
Now lost in time, long forgotten,
We, the people, now ruled,
By tumultuous tyrannical thoughts

Locked in our own minds,
We see nothing but the dark,
Dark depths of the oceans,
Whose waves carry us forth

Unwilling, as we walk along,
Like children answering the pipers call,
Or as sheep following their flock,
Or like blind men who have lost their path

What have we but ourselves?
That which we most desire,
Is lost to us, we who sleep,
In the Silent shadows of our souls.
