A Seasonal Walk to Being Friends After Lovers

manekisama

Silence; all that’s left
Held, unwarranted deceit
Trust falling bereft
Apocalyptic defeat
Mid-summer overheats

Cool breeze turns august
Evidence of changing life
A sorrowful bust
Growing farther until rife
Of pointless, dark, hollow strife

Goldenrod autumn
Thunderstorms rolling; the hills
Warring self’s bottom
Kick off plans my mind distills
Cold, streaking rain; sudden chills

Grey skies overcast
Wait under a parasol
Blue skies never last
Snuggled close and feeling whole
Not a word, taking its toll

Priorly built love
Mistaken, changing drawn lines
The whitest small dove
Flying without any signs
Watches our goals misalign

Learning all that’s wrong
As pain’s revealed in her screams
Knowing all along
Though bursting out at the seams
To me she’s become a dream

Craving hands to hold
She said, “we’re better as friends”
Nights still growing cold
Tormenting restraints don’t end
Forgive the mess, as I mend

Blanketing pale snow
The same as a young girl’s skin
Stretching vast with flow
Always best for staying in
Reflection returns to sin

Telling all and true
Honestly candid and bare
Missing the young “blue”
Someone that cannot be there
Distanced from a longing stare

Cutting out pieces
Standing for becoming more
Heightened releases
Falling down, face to the floor
So onward I will endure

Quickly flashing past
Two years; ev’ry time she smiled
Blackout; shadows cast
Reminiscing days spent wild
She forgives even this child?

Discussing us now
Serious every time
But we’re kind somehow
No longer playing as mimes
Making moves beyond past crimes

A very close friend
Who hid, veiled in mistrust
Held dear to the end
Lacking naught in love or lust
Until the body is dust

Striking a balance
Acceptance, this is my place
Sighing exhalants
A flying birdie I chase
With her, there can’t be disgrace

Supportive in acts
Budding; flowering, comes spring
Reciting the facts
Anything our future brings
We’ll both look forward… Smiling…

  • Comment from author about the poem: I wrote this as I was getting over my first breakup, and trying to accept being just friends with her. I use a lot of allusion and tried to perform a sort of “pivot” with certain phrases throughout the poem. There are also some bad puns and such, but for the most part, it’s just a poem about a breakup.
