A Place

PoeticPsycho

Think of a place where shootings are as common as a slight cold
Think of place where it's no big deal to find an addicts needles lying on the floor
Think of a place where the population is almost 4 million, and 23 percent of it is homeless
Think of a place where you can't wear certain colors because the meaning can be a lot deeper
A place where domestic violence runs as deep as blood
A place where silence is key for survival
A place where mothers tears flood the streets
Where the families struggle to provide while it is eating them alive
Where gentrification is the new-age colonization
And while you try to think of what the place would look like
I continue to live my life in it

"When gentrification is the new-age colonization," incredibly powerful line. I can't imagine what an intrusion it must be to have a neighborhood renovated for wealthy bourgeoisie business interest, while its inhabitants receive no benefit.
