In the course of my lifetime
I’ve survived many injuries
Scrapes, cuts and bruises
Even gone under the knife for surgery
But the scars that run the deepest
Are injuries not of the flesh
On the pages of my memory
I wish they weren’t still so fresh
I’m a survivor of the world
I’ll take a lickin’
And keep on tickin’
Made my share of mistakes
And I’ll own them with pride
But you might notice
A brighter glow I have inside
For its traveling that hard road
That makes me yearn for more
To dig deep within myself
And know what’s there at my core
That the hardest questions
Can have the simplest answers
All the lessons in life
Will make me a better dancer
And when God calls me home
I know my life will be reviewed
All my faults and regrets
Ethics and morals too
For running the gauntlet of life
And reaching the end with a smile
Hopefully God will take into consideration
That I still know life is a gift with every mile
Yes, I’m a survivor
But I’m not alone
We’re all survivors
Sisters and brothers, a family known
You lean on me
And I’ll lean on you
We all got each other
And God’s got us too

Beautiful thoughts--"survivor of the world"-excellent! I really enjoyed this poem. Very relatable. Great one, AP!
Thanks for reading and complimenting Christina. It's a huge boost of confirmation that my words have meaning and bearing with those who read them.
We all will survive with Gods help,
Thanks for reading Andy. I just hope God feels we're worthy of his help. With some people in this world, I just don't know.
Beautiful piece.
Thanks pb.

So far so good FineB. Thanks for reading and commenting.
A beautiful poem for this special season. We are survivors.
Thank you m&m.
Thanks AP. We really are all family.
Thank you brother WC.
Very well penned, AP! Yes, we are all survivors and we are all family too. You know, the older I get the more I realize how short life really is. I don't have time anymore to worry about scars, both physical and mental. I want to do the same your mentioned in your poem: Find what is at my core.
I enjoy your writing very much. Makes me think.
Thank you Fred for reading and the compliment.
