Death is knocking at my door

Death is knocking at my door,
A little bit harder than before.
I am so young and full of life,
Yet dreams cut short and full of strife.
So much of this world I will never see,
Life’s not fair, why did this happen to me?
Stage four cancer creeping through,
Six months to live, what should I do?

Death is asking to come in,
If I open the door, would that be a sin?
For every day is full of pain,
Body deteriorating, such a strain.
Always tired but can never sleep,
Energy low and body is weak.
This terminal illness is ruining my life,
This is too much to handle for a child of five.

Death is now whispering in my ear,
His comforting voice is drawing me near.
Treatments failing left and right,
Immunity’s shot, is it really worth the fight?
I’m starting to get visions of life after this,
The splendid beauty and harmony, no pain, such a bliss.
My piggy bank is full of all the extra change.
Enough to pay Kharon, the ferryman, his wage.

Death gives me a hug, with his arms open wide,
He promises to guide me and stay by my side.
I think I have burdened my family enough,
Their journey’s been sad and equally tough.
As my breath slips away, I start to see the light,
There is no more pain and no need to fight.
The life I was given, I am truly blessed,
The warm light engulfs me and puts my body to rest.
