Caged

poetboy5454

We are caged

Trapped within the present

Chained in our own reality

Blinded and deafened

Fed a hearty indifference and apathy

We are caged

Light descends upon us, kindling a fallen flame

Instead, we shed shadows upon the floor

Crushing hopes without shame

Screams begging to be heard, we choose to ignore

We are caged

By the very thing we call freedom and peace

A safe bubble riding amongst the torrent of war

I’ll take a pin and let you be released

Unblindfolded, ungagged, see the very things we claim to abhor

We are caged

Yet we hold the very key within our palm

Held on either side, by Justice and Apathy

Their fingers latched upon skin bursting with qualm

Now’s the chance to set yourself free

The world’s a crowded, messy place

We pass by crowds seeing fading faces

Though each embodying a life all their own

Understand that the seeds of change have been sown

Corrupt politics, burning ice, with us a screaming silence

To the hearts of others, built only by distance

Break past artificial boundaries and reach to each other’s hearts

Refuse to be caged and let this end become a start
