The Prince with no Crown

SquareGirl

There's not always a happy ending.
There's not always a happily ever after.
Sometimes a story just ends.
You can't come back from every disaster.
So the story I will tell
About a girl who fell under love spell.
She lived in a castle on a tall hill
With a man against her will.
He kept her locked up chain so tight
Away from the villagers far from site.
He was an evil man with a Darkness inside
When she saw him coming she wished she could hide.
She had no love for this man, no none in her heart.
She was forced to be here to play her part.
This is how she lived as years went by.
Alone in this castle, at night she'd cry.
But once a year he didn't lock the doors
She could go to the village, and explore.
But this year she heard a beautiful sound.
A melody so sweet ran through the town.
She followed the music, oh how her heart did sing.
She'd felt nothing like it, not the joy it'd bring.
She finally found the source of the music.
A man with a lute, oh how he could use it.
She watched him play for a little while
The magic he made, made her smile.
It been so long, she hadn't smiled in years.
But this man with the lute made it reach her ears.
He finished the song and took a bow
Looked over at her and gave her a smile.
The crowd dispersed as he put away the lute.
Still she stood and watched, though the music was through.
He walked over to her and ask her name
She told him and asked him the same.
She told him she loved the music, how beautiful it was.
He said it came from a heart full of love.
He said he'd seen her every year
And wrote the song for her to hear.
He said he loved her from the first time he saw her.
He'd love to spend the day with her if not longer.
She agreed to spend the day with this man.
They talked and laughed till they could no longer stand.
He asked if he could see her the next year
If she wanted he would be right here.
She went back to the castle to the man she hated
Thinking about the man that was waiting.
The next year she had a reason to smile.
To see the man with the lute for a little while.
She thought about him every day
Thinking of the words that she would say.
Like he said he was there waiting
With his lute on his back anticipating.
They spent the day and talked and talked
Giving gifts and forget-me-nots.
She fell in love as they walked through town.
He was now hers, her prince with no crown.
She did not care that he was not a rich man
She only cared that by her side he would stand.
They came up with a plan to be together
This time next year they would leave forever.
She went back to the castle to wait the year
So she could be with the man her heart did hear.
Finally the year was done
She could leave this castle and be with the one.
The evil man was very mad
He said if he saw her he would have her head.
About his threats she did not care
She had her prince with no Crown waiting there.
She made it to their meeting place
She waited to see his lovely face.
She waited for hours and still he did not show
Surely he knew today they would go.
Soon the sun went down
She's never been out this late in the town.
Where was he where could he be?
Her prince with no Crown surely did not leave.
She wandered around and finally saw him
Playing his Lute in a garden.
She went up to him and asked why he didn't show
He said he was sorry but there's something you should know.
She saw a woman watching from a home
He said that's my wife I can't leave her alone.
She said what about the promise you made.
We were supposed to be together to the end of our days.
He said I know I do love you
But I made a promise to her too.
She said how could you, how could you lie to me.
He said it wasn't a lie just not meant to be.
She looked into his eyes and the love she felt
It hurts so much and couldn't be helped.
In that moment she felt the rush
The weight pushing down her heart was crushed.
She turned around and left no trace
Never again to see his face.
The prince with no crown was never hers
The pain she felt was more than words.
