Holding on

Pia

Holding on

Holding on is when you lay in bed insisting on grabbing 10 minuets of their attention before our tired eyes dry and begin to slowly shut,
Fidgeting, wiggling and randomly talking to keep them awake but they still remain with there back turned, no cuddle and The sharp blunt quick speech of I’m trying to sleep.

Holding on is when the room is frequently silent so you begin with conversation about things that happened in your day, plans, how you feel, anything! but still their white fixated eyes still glare at the tv box,

Holding on is when you wear your best and look your best, waiting for a sarcastic but hidden compliment on how you look lovely, or the hideous joke about how you look but really it was their way of saying how nice you look,
Or the aftermath of a night out they lay in bed late feeling as if the alcohol is still there and their head begins to swell, but you still try to get them to drink and eat to help ease that hangover.

Holding on is when you offer to run the bath for when they arrive home, giving them a manicure as you watch the tv after a mad day, the care you show when something bad happens or there frustrated and stressed,

Holding on is when you get drawn in by the new movie that hit the big screen and wish to be taken but you never did go and watch one of the new movies, hinting a restaurant you’d like to try, just the two of you, and still you haven’t been, hinting a day away from the day to day routine, but your still sat doing what you do. Doing something which is just the two of you but you still haven’t in a very long time

Holding on is when you try so much to keep the intimate, in love spark between you and in return little but no trying back.

Holding on is when you have held on for so long, making the simplest of efforts, showing you care, and the love for that person and them not loving you back!

Holding on is when at some point l, at some time you eventually have to let go...

Pia, thank you for your poetry, it touched my heart, and inspired this:

    Dear Pia,
When holding on is wounded heart
and feeling failed before you start.
    When holding on another day
begins and ends with your dismay.
Then holding on is letting go
of who you are and what you know.
Make this the moment of your birth
for you are made of more than earth.
Let that which is within you sing
It has no hands but only wings.

    rick
