On The Trail Of A Cottontail

On The Trail Of A Cottontail

A little dog ran down the road

And chased a cottontail

He had his nose to the ground

And behind him closely trailed

The rabbit went to some briars

And thought that he was hidden

But the little dog found him there

And entered where forbidden

He flushed the rabbit from the thorns

Again close on his tail

But the rabbit sped fast away

With the dog there still compelled

Just passed the brook the rabbit hid

In a hollow tree

He felt invisible hiding there

But again he had to flee

From the tree went the rabbit

To a little lawn

It was a green and grassy place

Where the rabbit spent his dawns

The dog was no stranger to the home

And saw a cat he knew

The rabbit there streaked away

And ‘catch the cat’ ensued
