Wrong Side of The Looking Glass

Wrong Side of The Looking Glass

I sit there, atop my tower, staring out into the nothingness.

Watching through my looking glass at the things beyond my grasp.

The ever changing, always moving, emptiness.

Empty worlds, and hollow stars, gleaming just out of sight.

I look away, turning to the world below the tower.

Billions of lights, bouncing about, moving to and fro.

They flicker out of existence as quickly as they appear.

None of them ever looking up, coming up and staring with me.

My tower shifts, lifting further and further from the lights below.

I look around at the barren stone I call home.

To high to share the light, and to low to disappear from it.

An empty prison of my own making.

I turn, once again to the void above me.

My glass falls as I see a star flicker, if only for a moment.

Step by step, I walk away, realizing my folly.

I had never looked out with my looking glass.

I had looked in.
