Just A Lie

"Carter Wills"

Because I don't really know,
just how far I'll have to go,
to see this story to its end.

I don't really know,
if this love’s just for show,
or if you may have meant some of what you’d said.

You promised me.
And yet every one was just a lie.
You promised me.
That I wasn't just another guy.
You promised me.
That we'd be alright,
that we'd be alright.
And yet that was just a lie.

Not one bit of truth,
has yet to come from you.
All those false words,
spoken without a care.

Now I don't really know,
where it is I stand.
I don't really know,
when this will end.

But I can only hope...

You promised me.
And yet that was just a lie.
You promised me.
I wasn't just another guy.
You promised me.
That we'd be alright,
that we'd be alright.
And yet that was just a lie!

Did you ever care?
Did you ever wonder where?
How this might affect me?
How this would end up, you see?

Did you ever even think,
in even one single useful way?
Was this all just a game to you,
And I was just another part to play?

I don't really know, no,
no, I don't really know.
I don't know,
I just don't know.

You promised me.
That we'd be together.
You promised me.
That we would be forever.
You promised me.
That we would be alright.
That we would be alright.
And yet that was just a lie.
Mm, that was just a lie.
Yeah, yeah yeah, that was just a lie.

Because,
You promised me.
And yet that was just a lie.
You promised me.
That I wasn't just another guy.
You promised me.
That we would be alright.
That we would be alright.

That we would be,
at the end you see,
perfectly happy.
That we would be alright.
And yet that just was just a lie.

  • Comment from author about the poem: So, this is a bit more of a song, somewhat of a short story I wrote about a month ago after my girlfriend of close to a year broke up with me after cheating on me several times. Mayhaps a little overdramatic, but writing this helped me deal with it at the time. I asked her from our first day to never make me a promise she wouldn't keep. "I'll always love you" was one she commonly made. Of course, such didn't last. It was also somewhat of the inspiration for "Honesty", if you've read that writing of mine as well. I knew it wouldn't last, but it was nice to have the hope that it might. So, I simply wish to share it with you lovely people.
