On The Porch Swing
On our swing we discussed many things
Some good and some bad
It was where we shared our little problems
And some major with dear old dad
We would swing there on the porch
With dad in his chair
While mother leant a hearing ear
To the subject of our despair
Uncles would sometimes come along
And share their advice a bit
I grew to appreciate their help
As they knew the things I did
Girls were often my heartache
With breakups here and there
My mom’s response was For Pete’s sake
There and women everywhere
There was a confidentiality
No matter what we discussed
It was family we really needed
And in our family we could trust
