I woke up somewhere between
A memory and a dream
The morning bells and dawning light
They tell me that I won the fight
To make it through another night
(Without you by my side)
Remember Easter when I showed you I was broken
A truth we kept between us, purposely unspoken
I gave you that music box then as a simple token
And yt was then that you finally were opened
(And I prayed that you'd never leave)
Or the June night when you fell apart
And in pieces asked for a brand new start
I decided then I'd play the part
Of a watchman to thy heart
(You told me that you finally had a home)
And then came the days of life serene
But nothings ever as permanent as it seems
We danced beneath the streetlights faded gleam
Then Autumn's fire burned our hollow dreams
(And I knew not the words to speak)
The winter's dirge played gently on the air
As I swam against the currents of despair
And learned to live my life without you there
While trying to find a reason I should care
(As Eden burned I sat idly by)
