Once upon an Addict

vermahl

She loved him,

She knew his deepest feelings of life,

She related to him,

Together it just felt right.

She knew he partied,

Well she partied too,

But the difference between that,

Is he's wasn't only drinking boos,

He craved that chemical reaction,

In his body from his choice of drug,

So much so even,

That he forgot his lesser love,

She was left home alone,

AGAIN!

Going insane in her mind,

Wondering if he got agressed,

Overdosed,

Or was offed that time.

Alas!

The clock stroked 3 Am,

He floated into bed,

Pupils to a point like pin needles,

And no regard to what she had said.

She had told him to stay home that night,

She just wanted some attention,

But all he really wanted,

Was the numbness,

No affection.

She was already in love with him,

So she stayed,

Hoping the one shed fallen for,

Would change.

They argued about his curse,

Half of their relationship was a fight.

But again her feelings were to strong,

So she wouldn't leave his side.

Money started to grow legs,

Run from her wallet,

She asked where it went,

But of course he lied to the one he loved,

And replied "I don't know what you've done with it."

But again she loved him,

She just wanted to make it right,

Showed him compassion,

Love,

But he would still disappear in the middle of the night.

She still stayed,

Even after the stress took away,

What could of been their child,

She just wanted to tame the high,

But it was too wild.

Finally,

And surprisingly,

He showed that he cared.

Not quitting his vice,

But by causing her tears.

He left her,

He loved her too much to keep her in that situation,

Probably the most unselfish thing he's ever done,

Good thing to because now his recovery had begun.

They say you have to hit rock bottom,

In order to turn around your circus of a life,

Well after everyone he loved was out of his life,

He had realized all he done,

And then on determined to make it right.

So he moved out of state,

Got a good job,

And finally got clean.

But inside he still would sob,

Because he missed her,

He wouldn't say it,

Now shes long gone,

In the arms of another man,

Which was not at all what he had planned.

But if you can look at the big picture,

This is a happy ending,

She now has a family of her own,

He's clean and now their journeys are pending."

Hi there vermahl, I really like this poem. You say it's not your best work but it's still really good. I can relate to it in some ways.

Thank you guys. I know I was repetitive on a couple words but besides for that I believe it meshes well. I'm learning that the older I get, making poems that rhyme sound less and less organic.
