a promise

my mind is a disastrous site; constructing exquisite works of art. i am constantly thinking, and rethinking, and overthinking everything that tips slightly out of line. some days my thoughts are so jumbled and jagged, that I’m scared that they will shatter, and leave me broken beyond repair. i believe that a promise is the most impregnable word known to us- a promise to always listen, a promise to always be here, a promise to never leave. we’re quite brave, i think. we’re quite brave to take this word from the ones we love the most, and hold onto it when everything else seems to tip off the line. and if I'm brave enough to hold onto one word above all disastrous thoughts, then i can at least promise myself that I won’t shatter anytime soon.
