I grew up
Same as most kids
Not a lot of thought
In anything I did
But as the years passed
I began to see
The ways of the world
Revealed to me
Learning the meaning
Of earned respect
That it’s a two way street
An honest manner to reflect
If I’ve learned anything
In living sixty-one years
It’s to hold myself accountable
To let it be my driving gears
Everyone wants respect but
Respect is a double-edged sword
It can solidify your honor
Or prove deceit in your word
To deserve respect you need to
Understand responsibility
To own your actions, good or bad
Hold yourself to accountability

A wise course to take in life as this fine poem reveals is to treat as serious the need for feeling the need of accountability - - a great read A.P.
Thanks Fay. In writing this one, I think a lot of the inspiration came from our politicians and the BS they think we're gullible enough to believe. I guess this poem would be my response to them.
Fine advice and so well put AP
Thanks Michael. It only took me 61 years to write.
Very good write, as we go through our lives we learn so much and hopefully use it to do the right things, it is called experience.
Some of us do Andy. And sadly some never really figure it out. Thanks for the read.

I'm happy to see you write something which relates to us all. well covered, AP.
Yes Kevin, I think we poets seem to see things that some tend to ignore. Thanks for reading Bro.
I absolutely love your poem, AP! Respect does not come from nothing, it has to be earned as you so well point out.
Thanks Fred. As I said to Fay, I think this poem was inspired by our politicians and world leaders. They don't appear to do much leading. Just a lot of ratchet jawing.
