Where would the leaf be
without the branch
The cowboy drifting
without the ranch
Where would the wave be
without the sea
Its motion unformed,
adrift unseen
Where would a song be
without a voice
A silent concert,
a barren choice
And where would you be
without your soul
Condemned to matter,
not half—not whole
(Villanova Pennsylvania: January, 2018)
Day Into Night
Trains are romantic,
airplanes are not
The prepared speech pedantic,
‘a song lyric caught’
Your eyes have to choose
between vision and sight
Or your spirit transforms
—changing day into night
(Villanova Pennsylvania: January, 2018)
The Eternal Flame
Grandchildren
—life's fountain of youth
(Villanova Pennsylvania: January, 2018)
The Deepest Well
Emotion,
the capital of poetry
—in currency of what you feel
(Villanova Pennsylvania: January, 2018)

Funny, you write about the soul here, Kurt. This is a subject I am deeply interested in. I did write a few poems relating to soul, consciousness, etc. I just love the way you look at it in your poem. The soul and the 'matter' for want of a better word, do go together.
Your writing is exquisite, usually way above the writing on this site. And you even got it to rhyme! Kudos!
And your comments are always so kind. Made my day again!
Thanks Fred
