My Son

EmmaLaurel

I felt you flutter within my womb

The future pure no slight so cruel

Dreams forever bursting through

Never will be done to you

I watch you grow so near to me

A step beside a shadow be

Tiny breath heart beating

Damp Curls laughter seeping

I see the growth of every inch

Your fingers toes I wish to pinch

The joy the pain of stepping forward

Possibilities yet uncovered

I feel you break as life comes tumbling

Your hands retreats your eyes shut down

The only way is forward running

To test yourself remove the frown

I watch you turn to all the dangers

The simple pill of ecstasy

To hide behind the cloak of anger

Listen to them and not to me

I see the path we must together

Slowly building day by day

To courage strength we must remember

My son forever I can but say
