Although It's All I Can Remember.

kevin browne

It was taken from the heart to heart
When I saw it happening all in Rome
I had the ladies and I drank their booze
At the carnival sat at home
Although it's all I can remember
When the kids were wearing adult shoes
On the sunnyside of the street.

Then came along street artists love
Travelled to Berlin looking for more fun
The techno clubs were full of girls
Taking acid all afternoon in the sun
Although it's all I can remember
And all those fancy little twirls
On the sunnyside of the street.

Was given for free when a whore took me in
In the red lights of Amsterdam
When the lights went down real low
I shut up just like a clam
Although it's all I can remember
When she knelt down to give me a blow
On the sunnyside of the street.

I took the road to drinking hot Bombay
It wasn't long before I was in the USA
There I found many pretty girls on show
But I found out it was all okay
Although it's all I can remember
Even though they let me know
On the suunyside of the street.

When it came to it I just wanted more
So I danced all the way to Singapore
God only knew what I was doing there
I got so drunk I was on the floor
Although it's all I can remember
I can't even remember where
On the sunnyside of the street.

It felt like that my head had gone
I never realised that I was in Hong Kong
Sony asked me about some karaoke
Singing weird with a twisted tongue
Although it's all I can remember
And even though you say it's me
On the sunnyside of the street.

And so I swam the California coast
Where the ladies made me host
So I started necking Mai Tai drinks
But then I thought it cost me the most
Although it's all I can remember
And I couldn't even think
On the sunnyside of the street.

Great writing, Kevin! Keep on remembering that 'sunnyside of the street'! Love the rhyming too, very clever! You kind of sound like a sailor with a girl in every harbor! 🙂

oh, wouldn't that be just wonderful, Fred? you could possibly join me if ever I ended up in a Hawaiian poem. you do have sunnysides of the street there I take it?

      • FredPeyer

In Hawaii, both sides of the street are 'sunnysides' most of the time, but we don't have red light districts!
