The Abyss

Tristan Robert Lange

I’ve heard the promise,
“No man is an island”,
And struggled to find
Truth in those words.

It may or may not be,
One cannot be sure;
Yet, even if it is true,
Another one surfaces.

“No man is an island”,
The saying rings out.
One can, however, be
The abyss, a dark pit.

The black hole erases
Any traces of hope.
No one can know
It ever existed at all.
