Long deserving
Of overdue credit
In these passages of rhyme
She's never tried to change me
Alter or rearrange me
In so many ways she's saved me...
My silent partner in crime...
She puts up with my madness
Loves me when I'm sane
I was a wilted flower
Forgotten on the window pane
Somehow she has the power
To lift my face from dour
I'm grateful for every hour
That her sweetness
Compliments my sour...
I'm the desert, she's the rain...
She's uniquely crafted carpentry
When she could be flat pack
Like most the rest
I'm glad she's not normal
'Cos normality
I do detest
She keeps my blood flowing
By never guessing
Always knowing...
She's the beating in my chest...
A strong willed woman
Aways glowing
Never dull
With kindness
Always showing
Deserving of a crown
For putting up with me
A halo she adorns
Certainly no pushover...
She's the rose, to my thorns...
She's the mother to my children
A counterbalance
To my unstable life
I'm one lucky man
To have her as my wife
I was lost in the darkness
Until she emitted light...
I am death, she is life...
Chemical kisses
Watching the sunrise
Convinced me she's the one
Now thirteen years have passed
Who says good things
Aren't meant to last?
From then on I was blessed
Always a welcome invader
In my consciousness
Privileged to have her at my side
She is better than the best...
I am the electric, she's the kool aid acid test...
As If perfection had a personality
She makes my dreams reality
I know I'm not alone
A masterpiece of speciality
Carved out of
Flesh
Skin
And bone...
I will be forever grateful...
That she made her heart my home...

Whoa! Good one.......... Bonnie to your Clyde. I spent oodles of time reading about them. There was a romantic side to their story for sure! (Let's ignore all the death and destruction though). But it makes a powerful comparison for your poem.
Thank you so much Lorna. I'm glad you enjoyed. This is the first ever romantic poem I've written. It'll probably be the last. I just thought the wife deserved some credit and Bonnie & Clide came to mind lol.
Thanks for reading - Syd
This will get you "points" - I'm sure she'd like more!
Syd,
Loved reading your poem in its entirety; especially the lines, “She’s the rose, to my thorns...”, “She’s the mother to my children”...
A gem of a woman by your side that deserves that crown! An awesome tribute to your wife! Thank you for sharing the poem and the visual ( one of my favorite movies)!
~Laura~
Thank you Laura, yes she certainly deserves that crown. Especially for putting up with me. Glad you enjoyed - Syd
I think those of us who have often taken up residence with in the darkness, feel all emotions deeper than those who have not.
This makes us truly appreciate that light that someone brings to our lives.
Beautifully written tribute to the light of your darkness:)
Thanks Resa, such a beautiful comment.
Take care - Syd
