Fallen Angel

DGR

her head is filled with stars

entire galaxies swirling in her brain

she longs to fly into the cosmos

but is anchored down by a ball and chain

flying is taboo they say

bring your head down from the clouds

and over time she became ashamed

of her wings that had once made her proud

one by one her feathers fall

as she tries to find her place

and her dreams turn to salty tears

and fade as they stream down her face

the love and magic fade from her eyes

and are replaced with self-hate

society has destroyed this fallen angel

now she will never be the same

  • Comment from author about the poem: I feel like this is an experience that most people go through when they start to grow out of their childhood. We all had wild imaginations and dreams, but lost them when we were told to stop being so childish. Start thinking realisticly. I praise those brave enough to still show their young side no matter their age.
