If you are feeling a little bit low
Home is too lonely
You've things to work through
You want to be tended
But nobody's there
There's a place for this moment
A place where they care
The diner is waiting grab a chair to sit on
She'll come by your table
And she'll call you "Hon"
Whether man, woman, child
She will care the whole time
You're all of the world to her
Thinks you're just fine
You'll leave feeling loved
For just loose change and dimes

- Comment from author about the poem: I don't know if the UK has equivalent of "diners" in the US - that go back to the 50's where you can get anything at all to eat 24/7 - usually run by Greek families. They can be havens on long trips or community havens - for instance in Newtown CT where I live - after the school shooting that killed 26 children and teachers - everyone seemed to congregate there and there was total silence while people ate among the police and rescue workers that came for their breaks. The waitresses hovered over everyone like angels.

Such a tragedy of the school shootings. Love the old diners. There's a few up here in southeastern Massachusetts, one I know of has a 1950s theme to it. And the food is always delicious. And the deserts! You can't leave without having a chocolate cake or apple pie. To die for. Great write Lorna.
Lemon meringue pie as high as the sky!
The chocolate cake was my biggest vice. I couldn't even look at it and not want a piece of it.
If ever someone tells me I have a terminal illness, I will end my life living on chocolate cake............
I'm with you there. ; )
I like it. There are a lot of places that make breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but none of them except for mom, are better than diners.
Ah, the simple times.
Persistence is key
Lorna,
Love this write! It makes
me feel like getting in the
car and find a diner for
some delicious blueberry
pancakes drowned in maple
syrup! Yummy!
