Achtung Spitfire!

Lorna

Here she comes in that little red dress

Take evasive action

Head for the clouds

Try to feint, dive real low

She's got control

Doubt she's someone you'll escape

Her aim is deadly

She's an ace

There's room on her wing

For another "X"

Achtung Spitfire!

I will flat out say it. I always loved jets. They are awesome. Although probably the most underrated branch of the military in every country, when caught in the moment, nothing looks cooler or sounds cooler than an F-jet doing it's job.
    Great poem.
    Persistence is key

But these weren't jets - they were the killer little defense planes that helped win the Battle of Britain....... I met one of the pilots once - he had even been shot down, parachuted out and gone back up the same day. Meeting him and a B-17 bomber pilot (both the humblest men you ever want to meet) was the thrill of my life! Should have added that the Germans were in terror of these fast machines and hence "Achtung" when they saw them........ Go RAF!

interesting how you have given a plane '' a red dress'' and you refer to the plane as '' she'' i love how you have referred to the plane.. as a strong and deadly woman lol

      • Lorna

Well it was a woman I was talking about - the plane only represents her - obviously I missed the mark but since everyone loves the plane that's ok too! ha ha.......
