Skunk Too Close

Skunk Too Close

I was shocked seeing him there

Doing his morning gymnastics

Standing there on his front legs

ready to spray his aromatics

I stood still in the bright sunlight

And prayed that he would run

Though he stood his ground that day

shiny black there in the sun

He really was quite impressive

When seen there up so close

Though I feared he’d have a tantrum

And violate my nose

He performed there a bit for me

Standing mere feet away

Most said I was very lucky

For not having been sprayed

I could not avoid the encounter

It all happened so fast

He moved there all around

And I was a statue until he'd passed

Good one - good picture! Reminded me of one that we sometimes found hanging around the bin for horse feed - we wouldn't feed the horses until he had enough and walked away - but he was beautiful!

Thanks Lorna. I still recall most of my encounters with skunks. It's something you long remember.
