A perfect Light
existed before
the sun; no
not even the
darkness can
snuff out this
One.

Good write, and true Gary. Beginning of John's Gospel..... Though I might cringe if modern version used 'snuff out'! (John 1 v.5). Same as if 'whooppee' or similar words appear in some places in very-modern translations.
Point taken and I agree orchidee. Something better than “snuff” exists out there in the great ocean of English words. Indeed, it’s not a very regal or classy word. What I like about the word, now that I’m paying so much attention to it, is that it contains the word “sun” in it (poor argument, I know: the word “ass” contains the word “sas” two words I’d likely never use!). If anything, a reader might look at this early work, compare it with some later piece and have to admit, I hope, some small measure of improvement.
It's a good write Gary. You're not attempting to paraphrase the Bible, as in the ghastly 'The Message' Version. And I'm not seeking to paraphrase the Bible, nor re-write it, in my own poems. I suppose it's in everyday use when we say 'He's snuffed it' - not meaning he has taken a pinch of snuff! oops!
Well taken my friend; I enjoy our conversations. Thank you for your feedback.
Gary,
The light will always
shine...especially
throughout our
darkest moments!
Thank you for the
brilliant reminder!

Thank you Laura for your read and uplifting comment. These short works, when imbedded into a graphic or photo, do well on Instagram, can be recycled over and over (every six to eight weeks) and can be easily copied for pasting when parked here at mypoeticside. It’s an added bonus when someone from this community takes a look and provides feedback!
