White is no more for the birches,
And forlorn are the branches,
From which the last bird perches.
White is no more for the birches,
And grey no more for machines.
Lost is the past, so it seems.
White is no more for the birches;
Tis’ the color of all nature’s corpses.
Though mankind, peerless, triumphs
Everywhere, by any means.
