The Sun No Longer Shines

Joelle221

The sun no longer shines

Rather it burns my eyes

Turns my stomach to Ashes

Deteriorates me from the inside

Night no longer brings comfort

Only a sedative to numb the war

Between the fire and blackness

Eating at my core

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is about mental illness. Daytime is painful and the depression is crippling. Nighttime brings sleep (eventually), and that is the only escape.I have from the uncomfortable pain of depression.
